The Certificate forms a part of the Associated Programme of the Consortium of Planning Schools which operates the Joint Distance Learning Master of Arts in Town and Country Planning.
This Associated Programme is designed for candidates from the EU and some Commonwealth Countries, who are applying for Royal Town Planning Institute membership and who are required to obtain an update on current UK planning procedures. The Certificate is taken by means of distance learning, using learning materials provided by the University. It is meant to be completed within a twelve month period and successful completion of the Certificate requires a pass to be achieved in four coursework assignments.
The modules are: Module 1 Spatial Plan Making; Module 2 Development Management; Module 3 Development Process and Summative Assignment. Tutor feedback is provided on all assignments and additional guidance is available from a network of tutors in the Consortium Planning Schools.
Successful completion of the Certificate will provide a basic but sound understanding of the procedures and methods of Town and Country Planning in the UK and to some extent Ireland, involving an appreciation of who does what, why and how.
