Town & Regional Planning - MA
(Full-time or part-time)
MA Town & Regional Planning provides a high level of professional training in spatial planning for students across the North of England. The course welcomes full-time students with a wide variety of backgrounds, to further studies in spatial planning, building on their initial education and/or qualifications in a variety of ways. Part-time students are mostly engaged in planning practice or planning-related work in the public, private or community sectors, although those with related backgrounds are also welcome to apply.
The course aims to provide a critical understanding of the rationale for spatial planning and encourages students to be reflective practitioners, based on self-awareness and the development of an ethical standpoint in planning practice.
Key themes of the course include the creative practice of spatial planning, the theory and practice of sustainable communities, inter professional collaboration and local and regional regeneration. The course is modularised, and assessment is by individual essays, reports and group presentations, together with a dissertation which constitutes a double module at the end of the course.
All applicants should have an honours degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent qualification, or a degree with a minimum of two years' experience in planning or planning-related work. Exceptionally, those without degrees but with considerable planning experience at a certain level of responsibility may be considered.
MA graduates are eligible for full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) once they have completed two years of relevant planning experience and successfully completed the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).
Entry requirements:
You should normally have a degree (or equivalent) or an appropriate professional qualification giving eligibility for membership of the RIBA, RICS, Landscape Institute or similar bodies. You may also have completed a bridging course.
