Engineering - Lift and Escalator Technology (BTEC Professional Development Certificate)
Location: Avenue Campus/Distance Learning
Attendance: This is a distance learning course allowing the student to study from home, work or wherever is most suitable. There are also three weekend schools each year. You will also need minimal access to the internet.

Course Summary
The aim of the course is to allow people already working in the lift industries to study for an academic qualification which complements their current job, updates their knowledge and skills and improves their career prospects.
Course Aims
The course teaches the skills required in electrical and mechanical science, together with mathematics and other engineering studies associated with the lift industry.

Course Content
The course is both modular and taught by distance learning, therefore study is very flexible. You can study full-time or part-time and choose which modules to study. A module could also be taken as a ‘one-off’ either as a taster before deciding whether or not to do other modules, or in order to update skills in that particular area.
Typical modules include
- Advanced lift technology - electrical, hydraulic or mechanical
- Electronic systems and controls for lifts
- Escalator and passenger conveyor
- Fundamentals of lift technology
- Lift technology project
- Managing safely
- Practical management of a lift/escalator contract: commercial
- Practical management of a lift/escalator contract: commercial and on site
- Stairlift technology
Career Opportunities
The course is designed for people who are already working in the lift industries who want to gain qualifications in order to progress. Successful completion of the course will enable entry onto the FdSc Lift Engineering which is also taught by distance learning.
Assessment
Assessment for each of the units comprises an assignment and end-of-unit examination.
Entry Requirements
Employed in the service or manufacturing industries. We welcome international applications and applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications.
