Engineering (Pre-Master's)

Course overview
Suitable for those with a first degree in engineering, physics or mathematics but who do not meet the standard entry requirements for a Cranfield MSc. This course is ideal if you have been out of formal education for some time or wish to change your career direction. Consideration will also be given to applicants holding a UK Ordinary/Pass degree (or equivalent for overseas students) in cases where this was the highest achievable award.
The Pre-Master's Course in Engineering is an intensive, full-time course designed to be a bridging programme. The main benefits of this course are:
- Successful completion of the Pre-Masters course will lead to direct admission to the engineering MSc course of your choice.
- Developing the personal and professional skills needed for postgraduate study and future career development.
- Enhanced understanding of engineering sciences and mathematics.
- Experience of the methodologies, philosophies and tools that are used in industry.
- Improved academic English language skills and research methods.
The lecture courses, practical laboratory sessions and design exercises are timetabled between October and August. Students will need to dedicate a significant proportion of their time to studying outside of the teaching period. A typical total time commitment is approximately 1,500 hours over the ten month course.
Entry requirements
Ordinary degree or HND and 3 years experience (or equivalent) in engineering and physical science disciplines. Candidates will be individually considered. Previous experience, aptitude and level of academic achievement will be assessed.
English Language Requirements
Our normal minimum requirement is a TOEFL score of 580 (paper test) or 237 (computer test), essay rating 4.5 or 92 (Internet test), all skills 19 or an IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 for writing, a TOEIC overall score of 830, or a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English grade C or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English grade C, although a number of our programmes require higher scores.
