Clinical Information Management

Duration: 1 year full-time, 2-3 years part-time.
Entry Requirements:
A minimum of a 2nd class UK Honours degree or equivalent. In exceptional cases, however, a candidate may be admitted with appropriate professional experience. Where applicable, students must achieve a minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 92. Our Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes courses offer pre-sessional training in English.
Course Description:
In the era of evidence based medicine, the need for accurate information to inform the design and execution of clinical trials is more important than ever before. In addition, global good clinical practice (GCP) and regulatory requirements demand that the collection, archiving, analysis and interpretation of clinical information are well-managed and transparent for audit.
This MSc is unique in its field and has been designed to equip students with the balance of skills and knowledge required to manage information efficiently and effectively in the healthcare sector. The course content is relevant to clinical research practice within the public and private sector, enabling better management of study information from design to completion.
Our Clinical Information Management MSc is part of the Clinical Research Programme and is divided into three parts:
- a formal taught component comprising eight modules
- a group project
- an individual research project

- Research Design and Methodology
- Statistical Analysis and Interpretation
- Clinical Trial Practice
- Intelligent Information Systems
- Information Warehousing
- Enterprise Systems
- Business Principles
Group project
This follows the taught modules. Students will work in small teams on a project requiring the use of all knowledge and skills gained from the taught modules.
Research project
A critical part of the course is the four-month individual research project, enabling students to apply the theory, processes, methods, skills and tools gained on the taught programme.
