Overview:
Information systems pervade all aspects of modern life and are central to the function of contemporary, commercial organisations. The main focus of this course is that information is a corporate resource and systems development should be driven by organisational requirements. Technology should be regarded as a key enabler but not the primary driver in the development process. You will study information systems theory within a systems and organisational context and put that theory into practice through case work, a dissertation and the development of information systems.
Modules:
Core modules include:
- Database Design and Implementation
This module develops your concepts of databases and database management systems, to study in detail, techniques and tools for developing and managing such systems. - Dissertation
The dissertation/Masters project aims to provide an opportunity for you to engage in research and advanced scholarship in a subject area that is appropriate to your course but of your own choosing. - Information & Knowledge Management
This module provides you with the critical knowledge and skills required to understand and evaluate the role of information and knowledge within the context of business models. - Information Systems Management and Quality
Information systems operate within complex and dynamic environments. This module addresses the issues of the ways in which systems need to be managed and evaluated. - Information Systems Modelling
This module provides you with a range of skills for modelling information systems, and with an insight into various ways in which these skills can be integrated in an organisational context. - Information Systems Theory
This module provides an understanding of information systems development concepts. You will be introduced to theoretical perspectives underpinning the development of information systems. - Innovation
This module introduces you to research based theories of innovation and the diffusion of innovation, the management of innovation, and enterprise. You will be introduced to management methods. - Research Practice
This module aims to develop your awareness of the methods and skills which are required in order to carry out Masters level research successfully, and to reflect critically on your own development in the context of your chosen programme of study.

Entry requirements:
Requirements: Applicants should have either an honours degree or a professional qualification (or equivalent), or significant work experience (typically a minimum of three years) with skills and knowledge comparable to those gained from an honours degree.
