Overview:
Management of information is key to the success of modern organisations. Contemporary studies show that information professionals should take account of business strategy, cultural and behavioural issues, and knowledge and understanding of systems concepts. Consequently, there is a need for professionals with the knowledge and expertise to employ appropriate approaches to systems development in a diverse variety of contexts. These professionals should be able to communicate with the business community to identify organisational information requirements, build models of those requirements and develop successful systems.
Modules:
Core modules include:
- Digital Media Communications
This module introduces students to practical and theoretical aspects of electronic media and communications, with a particular focus on the use of the Internet to support an organisation's public information and communication requirements. - Dissertation
The dissertation / Masters project aims to provide an opportunity for you to engage in research and advanced scholarship in a subject area that is appropriate to your course but of your own choosing. - Elective
In addition one elective module is studied, and selected from other awards for example form MSc Information Systems and Web Application Development. - Information Society and Information Economy
This module provides students with the basic range of arguments concerning the nature of the information society, presenting the arguments of those who see it as qualitatively different from its precursors, and those who argue it is not. - Information Systems Management and Quality
Information systems operate within complex and dynamic environments. This module addresses the ways in which systems need to be managed and evaluated. - Information and Knowledge Management
This module provides you with the knowledge and skills required to understand and critically evaluate the role of information and knowledge within the context of business models. - Innovation
This module introduces you to research based theories of innovation and the diffusion of innovation, the management of innovation, and enterprise. You will be introduced to management methods. - Research Practice
This module aims to develop your awareness of the methods and skills which are required in order to carry out Masters level research successfully, and to reflect critically on your own development in the context of your chosen programme of study.

Requirements: Applicants should have either an honours degree or a professional qualification (or equivalent), or significant work experience (typically a minimum of three years) with skills and knowledge comparable to those gained from an honours degree.
