The recent growth in applications for phones and other mobile devices has created a new sector in the software development industry and a demand for highly skilled application developers. With a growing need for mobile application software and content for platforms such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Nokia platforms and HTC platforms, this course combines creative content design with software development skills applicable to national and global industries.
This course will provide you with the appropriate knowledge to design and develop quality mobile applications for the growing mobile application market. You will also have the opportunity to practice your skills and develop professional standard mobile applications through project work.

Core Modules
Interaction design & evaluation
This module explores the range of interactive technologies available through mobile devices, such as visual, auditory, touch and gesture and the analytical tools needed to evaluate novel mobile applications.
Mobile applications in a business context
Introduces the business models and opportunities that are emerging from this new industry and provides you with an understanding of the market place and the technical processes of getting applications to market.
Mobile platforms & development environments
Provides you with in-depth understanding of the range of platforms and operating systems that control the current generation of smart phones and mobile devices.
Rapid application development for mobile devices
Explores the use of rapid development tools (typically web based), their practical use and current best practice for implementation of mobile applications. The module applies an iterative design, implement, evaluate and modify cycle which you will use to develop an application.
Requirements
Applicants should have an honours degree in computing, multimedia development, computer games development or similar disciplines, with a minimum of a lower second class (2:2), or equivalent professional qualification, or significant work experience (typically a minimum of three years) with skills and knowledge comparable to those gained from an honours degree course.
