Digital Imaging & Creative Visualisation - PG CERT

About Your Course

Imaging technology has recently undergone a dramatic revolution in the move from chemical technology to digital technology. This transition brings endless creative possibilities but also brings added ethical concerns. By exploring innovative photographic and advanced visual effects technologies, this course exploits the new versatility of the camera and hence the photographer. It offers tuition in a wide range of technologies including; image acquisition, image manipulation and composition techniques and high dynamic range and multiple image stitching techniques. It will also offer an insight into the history of images and imaging technology and an investigation of the technical, ethical, intellectual, and health and safety tools required by the modern digital image maker. You will extend digital image making beyond the purely photographic, dealing with advanced graphics, visualisation, interactive media, visual arts and live installations.

Benefits of studying this course

The course offers a unique combination of technical innovation and visual creativity. Taught by a skilled group of Artists, Designers and Technologists, we pride ourselves on the diversity of our delivery. Currently our tutors include Photographers, Digital Artists, Visual Effects and Compositing experts. Most of them practice professionally thereby keeping their skills fresh. We have excellent equipment and resources including a state-of-the-art chroma-key and motion capture studio. The course is based around a final practical project presented as a showcase/ tradeshow style event at the prestigious Northern Technology Institute (rated in the top 10 best UK co-working spaces). We have excellent equipment and resources including a state-of-the-art chromakey and motion capture studio.

Core Modules

3D Computer Technologies

Investigate recent and emerging 3D computer modelling, animation, visualisation, and rendering techniques. Using both analytical and creative approaches determine the best strategy to generate given objects, motion types, lighting conditions and moods.

Digital Imaging

Demonstrates how digital technology can be used to enhance the technical and creative potential of photographic imagery. Using the latest digital imaging techniques, students will develop a portfolio of work that exhibits the full potential of the digital image.

Interactive Environments

Use novel methods of computer interaction for the control and generation of content for virtual computer environments and develop interaction design skills.

Requirements

In addition to the scheme entry requirements, you will require either:
