London South Bank University
Mechatronics Engineering
Mechatronics combines the disciplines of mechanical and electronic engineering together with computing and IT systems. The programme offers an integrated approach to engineering, incorporating mechatronics, product design, microprocessor-based control, manufacturing systems, modelling, simulation and quality management. Mechatronics is essential to the design and manufacture of modern products and processes.
The course takes graduates from various engineering, management and software engineering disciplines and develops them into multidisciplinary engineers capable of working in mechatronics and related fields. This enables them to apply an integrated approach in designing and developing products and processes.
The individual project is a major element of the course. It involves a wider spectrum of multidisciplinary research in design, manufacturing systems, quality management and IT, with due regard to the efficient exploitation of the technology, materials and marketing resources of industrial firms. Students are encouraged to work on industrial-based projects.
