Computer Systems and Networking (CSN)

This conversion programme intends to provide you with the knowledge and practical skills required to follow a career in computer or network management and support. The course has been developed to produce MSc graduates who can:

  • Understand the design and operation of computer systems and networks
  • Deal with the inter-connection and use of computer networks, typically containing machines from different manufacturers
  • Integrate hardware and software solutions
  • Use their knowledge to analyse and create specifications for computer systems and networks and to design, implement and test appropriate solutions.

The programme provides a basis covering the design and operation of computer systems and networks, leading to topics relating to the interconnection and use of computer networks. Aspects of software design for distributed systems are also covered.

This course also covers some Cisco Certified Network Associate and Cisco Certified Network Professional topics on computer networks.

      Graduates of the MSc Computer Systems and Networking course are equipped to enter industry and progress rapidly to project management level, to enter into research, and to become involved in policy and strategy formation. Career paths lead into computer systems, software, engineering and research.

      Entry requirements

      An applicant with a minimum 2:2 honours degree or a PgDip or a professional qualification recognised as equivalent to an honours degree in a numerate discipline.
