Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

You can start this course in January 2011, and you can study full time or part time.

Why choose this course?

  • You'll be able to apply for Chartered Engineer status when you graduate as this course has been developed to meet all the requirements.
  • You'll be taught by experienced and supportive tutors, who will help you reach your full potential.
  • You'll develop the skills and knowledge employers are looking for in areas such as automotive, aerospace, petrochemical, scientific or manufacturing applications.

About the course

You'll specialise in mechanical and manufacturing engineering, and develop the skills and knowledge you'll need to apply for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) when you graduate.

We've got close links with local businesses - including Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Balfour Beatty, Bombardier, Coors breweries, Novartis, Pektron, and Vinci - sector skills councils, professional bodies and the Regional Development Agency, EMDA. Our Industrial Advisory Panel is drawn from these industries and means we can keep up to date with the current developments in the industry and pass them on to you in our teaching.

What you'll cover

This course is flexible, so you'll have lots of choice in the specialist subject modules you take and the ways you learn. So you'll study some modules through lectures and tutorials, some online and others in your workplace. You'll study both on your own and as part of a group. And your project work will give you experience of working in teams.

If your undergraduate degree is not accredited by the Engineering Council as part of their requirements for the CEng, or you're unsure about studying a postgraduate course, you can do the Preparatory Programme - Preparing for Postgraduate Study in Arts, Design and Technology (Engineering) - before you start the MSc.

If you're an international student you can combine this with an appropriate English course if you need to reach the international entry requirements.
