Fluid Machinery Engineering

Fluid machinery is widely used not only in the water industry but also in renewable energy applications. This course uses in-house and industry based expertise, and offers a unique opportunity for professional development and career advancement for engineers in industry, and introduction to this important area of engineering for students who wish to join the industry. This course has been developed in collaboration with the Pump Centre with input from the British Pump Manufacturers Association, the British Hydro Association and the Fluid Machinery Group of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

It consists of six taught modules and a major individual MSc project. The project will be on a fluid-machinery topic, consisting of research and development that applies and links together the knowledge and skills gained during the taught modules, and for part-time students working in industry, will be closely related to the student's employment.

Taught modules include: Fluid machinery, Design and modelling of systems, Advanced CAD/CAM, Renewable Energy, Mechanics and actuators, and intelligent system control.
