Cranfield University
Air Transport Management
Starts: throughout the year
Duration: 2-5 years part-time
Course overview:
The ongoing success of the air transport industry has made been possible by rapid technological advances and associated high investment, resulting in demands for an increasingly skilled workforce. More recently, industry liberalisation and privatisation in many parts of the world has led to increased competition, spurring further gains in efficiency and a continued decline in air fares. In today's rapidly changing air transport environment the industry requires access to advanced and comprehensive knowledge, coupled with an in-depth understanding of its needs.
The MSc in Air Transport Management (Executive) is designed to equip you with the skills required to either enhance your present career or to allow you to pursue a new career path with airlines (in operations, marketing or engineering), airport authorities, civil aviation departments, air transport consultancies or aerospace companies .
Modules:
Students are required to complete the following modules:
- Air Transport Fundamentals
- Quantitative and Research Methods
- Economics and Financial Management
- Airline Operations.
Students then pursue four optional modules from the following:
- Airline Marketing
- Airline Fleet Planning
- Airport Business Management
- Air Transport Engineering (Maintenance Operations)
- Airport Operations
- Aviation Safety Management
Students should start with the Air Transport Fundamentals module and ideally Quantitative and Research Methods should be taken in the first year, however we are quite flexible in the order the other modules are taken. Lectures are given by both internal and external speakers, the latter selected for their extensive direct knowledge and experience of the industry.
Students are also required to complete a research project/thesis. It is an opportunity to study a problem in detail, and sponsoring organisations or the student's company may co-operate in the choice of a suitable subject. Research thesis topics vary widely and have recently included 'Data-driven Airline Safety Management' and 'A Critical Study of the ETOPS Experience'.
