Scientific Computation

Duration: 1 year FT, Up to 5 years PT

Entry Requirements:

Normally a 1st or 2nd class honours degree (or equivalent) in science, engineering or mathematics. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable. Our normal minimum requirement is a TOEFL score of 580 (paper test) or 237 (computer test), essay rating 4.5 or 92 (Internet test), all skills 19 or an IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 for writing, a TOEIC overall score of 830, or a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English grade C or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English grade C, although a number of our programmes require higher scores.

Course Description:

The Scientific Computation course gives considerable emphasis to practical, industrial and computational aspects of the subject.

Students who complete the course successfully will be equipped to understand available numerical methods, to develop existing algorithms into usable software and to exploit available software.

Our MSc is suitable for graduates or experienced professionals who wish to gain understanding of processes through which good software is developed for applications in science and engineering, and of the numerical methods involved in the computer solution of such problems. Potential students should have a reasonable knowledge of mathematics and some experience of elementary computer programming.

Funding:

There are a number of wholly funded places available to UK MoD personnel. A limited number of bursaries are available to suitably qualified applicants from the private sector.
